When I think of Iceland, I think of waterfalls and of this mountain. It’s by far one of the most symbolic Icelandic landscapes and was a must shoot for me. Thankfully, I was fortunate enough to shoot it on three occasions with very different conditions.
I arrived at Kirkjufell with clear skies but before we knew it the snow had rolled in. I’d all but given up until there was a slight reprieve and in the storm which, within minutes, had completely ceased and I had a brief window of a few minutes to roll off a few frames. Kirkjufell with snow.
Kirkjufell (Icelandic: Church Mountain) is a 463 m high mountain on the north coast of Iceland’s Snæfellsnes peninsula, near the town of Grundarfjörður. It is claimed to be the most photographed mountain in the country. Kirkjufell was one of the filming locations for Game of Thrones season 6 and 7, featuring as the “arrowhead mountain” that the Hound and the company north of the Wall see when capturing a wight.
